The Kheops is an expert system shell for development of rule based expert systems. As a unique feature it has build in mechanisms to support real-time data processing, to develop real-time expert systems.
Its knowledge representation relies on a finite set of propositional attributes which could be extended with temporal relations and on monotonic reasoning. Kheops meets real-time requirements using precompilation of rules to a decision tree, which gives an upper bound of the response time of the developed system.
Kheops has been developed in the context of project Tiger. It proved to be a useful tool in designing real-time process control expert systems.
