Welcome to Cracow

Kraków is a historical capital city of Poland with population close to one million, including 120,000 students. The city is an academic and cultural center with a long tradition. Last year Kraków has been appointed by the European Council as one of the European Cities of Culture.

The Joint 6th Biennial Meeting gathers over 350 participants from over 40 countries world-wide. 276 extended abstracts were accepted for publication in the abstracts volume. Abstracts are organized in 17 sessions under the general theme "Mineral deposits at the Beginning of the 21st Century".

The organizers had a hard task to accommodate all the presentations within three days, so we apologize to all authors who are not satisfied with the time of presentation. We also apologize for not fully professional work done by the Secretary of the Organizing Committee.

We express our sincere gratitude to the co-organizing institutions: the Polish Geological Institute and the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.. We also express our sincere thanks to all conference sponsors mentioned in this issue.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee I wish you a successful meeting, and an enjoyable stay in Kraków.
