The main research topics of the Department concern the following problems:
- Applied information to mathematical modelling.
- Theoretical metallurgy:
- application of equilibrium and statistical thermodynamics,
- evaluation of thermodynamics properties of metallic alloys, intermetalic compounds and slags,
- kinetics of high temperature metallurgical chemical processes.
- Heat and mass transfer analysis:
- mathematical modelling heat and mass transfer processes in liquid metals and alloys,
- mathematical modelling and experimental research of turbulent fluid flows,
- modelling of transport phenomena in crystal growth,
- mathematical modelling of solidification processes of liquid metals and alloys (macro and micro models of heat and mass transfer),
- mathematical modelling and computer simulation of metallurgical processes (blast furnaces, flash smelting processes, aluminium electrolysis cells),
- energy and exergy analysis of the metallurgical processes; auditing of energy systems.
- application of least square method in non-linear thermodynamic problems.
- Energy management and economy in metallurgy:
- energy systems management,
- energy conservation policy,
- economy of thermomodernisation investments.
