Research and education

IMG_1927 (Kopiowanie)The scientific and research activity carried out in the Salt and Chemical Materials Research Laboratory covers issues related to geology and tectonics of salt deposits in the Permian and Miocene formations as well as other chemical materials such as sulfur, barite, phosphorites, etc. The tasks carried out relate to geochemistry, petrography and petrology of evaporites, and also assessment of geological and mining conditions for the exploitation of deposits. At the same time, issues related to the protection and protection of historic mining excavations in the Wieliczka and Bochnia salt mines are being analyzed. In addition, the Laboratory carries out tasks resulting from the needs of the ational economy for underground storage and storage in salt deposits.

Scientific and research subject of the Laboratory of Salt and Chemical Resource

Geology of salt, gypsum, anhydrite and sulfur deposits
Research on potassium-magnesium salts
Research on the specific tectonic salt deposits
Preparation of studies  regional for evaporative deposits
Determination of geological and mining conditions for the construction of reservoirs in salt deposits
Storage and storage in salt deposits
Geological research for the protection of historic salt mines
Research on rare and trace elements in salt deposits
Laboratory tests of salt minerals (chemical analyzes, microscopic examinations, gas and liquid inclusion tests)

Rysunek4As part of the education program, students will learn about stratigraphy, detailed geological structure and tectonics as well as geological and mining aspects of individual deposits of chemical raw materials. In addition, they independently carry out structural, isophotite and lithopotent maps for selected areas of exploitation. For completion, they construct geological cross-sections for the selected salt structure. At the same time, classes in sedimentology, petrology and evaporative geochemistry are conducted for teaching.
